Unlike other LPs, this one uses subtitles to keep from taking away Yume Nikki‘s ambiance so it’s a great choice for those that don’t want to lose the atmosphere of the game.įor more great titles, check out more of the best Japanese indie games you’ve never played. There’s also an awesome Let’s Play of the game (don’t worry it’s not YouTube) which is over here. The manga has already started serialization in the magazine Manga Life Win and there’s naturally an English translation, which you can find here. In 2013, the official site announced the release of a novel, manga and album for Yume Nikki. There are also various Easter eggs involving the random appearance of certain NPCs and events, the most famous examples being Uboa, the Mars event and the White Desert event. Each area is filled with the most unsettling imagery, such as freakish backgrounds, body horror and plenty of empty rooms that simply exist to unnerve the player. Where this game excels is in the horror and weirdness that permeates every aspect. It takes non-linear exploration to its logical extreme as there’s really no pay-off for what players accomplish, except finding new areas and events. I dont know why it still feels so fresh in my memory, but when I remember that this one came out any more than four or five years ago I start to feel like a fossil, and it actually came out before a lot of you were ever born, way back in 2004. Instead players must simply explore and uncover the secrets that lay hidden. At Last Reviewing Yume Nikki Manifestations It feels like only yesterday that this weird little RPGmaker game first went viral. Urotsuki is always referenced to in the fangames reference rooms, due to being the protagonist of one of the most well-known Yume Nikki fangames.Unlike other titles, the main purpose of Yume Nikki is not to achieve a specific goal such as saving the world or rescuing someone. Not much is known about Urotsuki, but many believe that she has had experiences with many other people, as her dream world has some of the most memorable NPCs. She can be seen as spunky and energetic, with an eccentric side. Though she is not without a feminine side, as can be evidenced by her twin-tail and penguin effects. The fact she uses a chainsaw and a motorcycle (which can be combined with a wolf effect) as her primary weapon and travel effects, respectively, leads one to believe she has something of an aggressive personality. Many images of her depict her relatively young, but most likely older than Madotsuki. Although a number of unlockable wallpapers depict her with open eyes with the irises usually being lavender, sometimes red (particularly in pictures where she is being killed/killing) or light brown. Her sprite is done in a style similar to the original Yume Nikki, where her eyes appear to be closed. Many of these outfits are references to other fangames. Unlike most fangames Urotsuki has a dressing room in her dream world apartment which allows her to change her clothes temporarily. She wears a purple-colored turtleneck shirt with a plaid pattern, a white skirt and red shoes. Urotsuki has short, spiky blonde hair that feathers out to the sides.
